Areas of Flooding – Northwest Indiana

by Jody Narantic on September 15, 2008

This past weekend we had a record number of rainfall causing many residents to evacuate their homes and our main expressway has been shut down due to flooding.

If you are traveling 80/94 through Indiana to Chicago – 80/94 has been closed in both directions from Cline Ave. to Calument Ave.

Yesterday our local radio station came on air to announce closing areas and to help those directed off the expressway to find their way through town. They did a great job directing those that live out of town make their way through town. Always tune into your a.m. station when in unfamiliar areas. They may be able to help.

Also, there are many school closings in our area. Here is a website that list those closings.

And please remember to never travel through a flooded road. There were many travelers stranded yesterday due to flooded roads.

Here is a slideshow of some of the flooding in our area. Amazing that some of these photos are very near our house and as of this morning we have had no water.

Stay safe!

I think the weather and the seasons are slowly changing for the worse. We have had more rain and bad storms than we ever had.

Take care everyone and pay attention to the weather forcasts. I have a feeling things will only get worse.

Glad you and Mark are staying dry and safe. Looks like there’s been some pretty major flooding there. Here’s hoping everyone comes through it safely.

I couldn’t believe the amount of rain that we got over the weekend. It was amazing. We had flooding everywhere, and there is still somewhat of a flood danger today as well.

I”m very thankful that we only had just a little trickle in our basement. We made out much better than plenty of people around us.

Glad to hear none of the flooding was around your house.

Glad you both are OK and the flooding did not get to your home. We are fortunate here in MS..we did have flash flood warmings but nothing like that. Had a lot of high winds also. Again, glad you are fine. Marian

Stay safe out there….it’s amazing the wrath that mother nature can create.
We deal with the earthquakes here…..thank goodness they are few and far between.
