I have many fears – Amusement rides, snakes, bugs, having to tinkle in the woods but one of my biggest fears is having to drive the truck from the boat launch. It’s steep and I have a fear of the truck some how backing right into the water. The tires spinning on the wet pavement and the truck not wanting to go forward. I’ve only had to pull the truck out once and I begged and pleaded not to have to do it. I broke out in a sweat, my hands were sweating and then I got a stomach ache. But my hunter couldn’t get it out any other way. It had to be me. If I saw some random guy, I would’ve paid him to pull the truck out but no one was around.
Most of our fishing trips our friend Troy is there to save the day. Mark and Troy are in charge of launching the boats. But this trip Troy and Denise will be late and that means The Hunter’s Wife has to help launch the boat. I’m breaking out in a sweat as I write this. I will have bad dreams for the next 2 weeks. I use to have dreams of driving up a steep road and my car flipping backward. Oh for the love of fishing, I have stomach ache.
I will have a stomach ache for the 6 hour drive down. I wonder if I can convince my hunter to wait until his boat launching buddy gets there? Maybe if I promise not to talk so much when we are fishing, or not ask so many questions, or if I swear I will take my own fish off the hook, or I promise not to ask to drive the boat, or if I promise not to befriend other fishing people and let them know our fishing spots.
I can see it now, Mark will back up the boat, which I never like to watch. Then as the truck is slanting at a not so safe angle I have to get in the truck and haul @$$ forward.
Oh, for the love of his truck, I have a stomach ache.

You’ll be fine. Just put it in drive and push the pedal to the floor:) Okay, maybe not all the way to the floor, but push the pedal as needed. As my wife always says, “It will be fine”.

You think that is bad? You ought to have to pull the truck out of the boat ramp and park it when there is snow and ice on the ground…. ok, now I’m getting a stomach ache again (I messed up once – and almost did put the truck in the frozen lake so now I get to hold a rope and keep the boat in place while my hubby parks the truck
– no more stomach aches!)

I feel for you on this one Jody. I wouldn’t like doing that either.

Oh my gosh…I feel your pain sista!! I am afraid of everything having to with launching the boat or loading it back on the trailer. I really don’t even like to drive it unless we are on a big lake with no one around. Makes me nervous that I am going to hit something.
One time the hubby asked me to drop him off on a dock when we first got the boat and instead of hitting reverse I went forward and hit the dock…no damage but I have been tramatized since then.
I will be sending calm, cool, and collected thoughts your direction so it won’t be so nerve racking come the truck on the incline at the lake. I wouldn’t want to do it either!

I know exactly where you are coming from! I HATE driving hubby’s truck up the ramp, even if he’s already backed it up and unloaded the boat. Just think calm thoughts – the slower and easier you go, the quicker you will have it done.
Take care, and have some ant-acids on hand!

Jody, remember I told you if there was anything I could ever do for you, to just let me know.
Oh well, I guess that isn’t really practical now is it? You will do fine, don’t psych yourself out. Go fishing and have fun!

Practice driving around pulling the trailer some, and I bet pulling off the boat ramp won’t make you so nervous. Good luck!
