Bringing Kids Back To Nature

by Jody Narantic on February 25, 2009

One of the most rewarding things about having this blog is the opportunities I’m able to share with others. And when the PR Rep’s for BP contacted me about helping out our local Boys and Girls Clubs with the Wish to Fish Clinics, I was honored.

This Spring and Summer I am teaming up with BP and our Boys and Girls Clubs to bring the joy of fishing to our local youth.  The goal for the Wish to Fish Clinics is to introduce the kids to the sport of fishing and educate them on safe practices.  The kids will be taught casting techniques, identify various types of fish and allow them to experience the joys of the sport of fishing.

BP was kind enough to donate a kit for each club in my area. The kits include a counselor guide, 6 fishing poles, fish flash cards, lures, fish identification sheets, an inflatable pool and certificates for completing the program.  I have to say I’m as excited as I know they will be.  I plan to attend each one and will follow-up here with pictures and a few good stories.

There are many outdoor bloggers that participate in various programs to get kids outdoors and enjoy nature.  It seems that has been lost over the years and we’ve forgot just how important it is.  I hope by participating in the Wish to Fish Clinics these kids will remember and carry on a love for fishing.

If you volunteer or participate in an outdoor program for your local community, I’d like you to share them here.  Maybe it will bring attention to others to do what they can to participate in their local community as well.

That sounds like a great program! That’s great that you are getting involved…I’m sure the kids will love learning from you!

Thankfully we won’t be learning to fish with real fish otherwise I’d to force myself to take a fish off the hook. Can’t be scared in front of the kids.

That is so very cool. I really do look forward to seeing and reading the coming events.
I have been saying for quite some time that our kids are the future for so many things that we need to help them to make the right decisions.

I’ve talked about this with you before and I think it’s great you’re pursuing it. The kids are lucky to have you and I bet you have a great time.

I was going to ask if you were using real fish, but I see you’ve already mentioned that. Good to know you won’t have to touch a fish so the kids don’t think you’re a wimp.
