Fish Fry Menu

by Jody Narantic on September 17, 2008

fishOne of the things my family really enjoys is a good fish fry dinner. I’ve never seen anyone eat more fish than my Dad and he is someone that really enjoys a meal. I think fried fish is on the top of his list.

Fish Fry Menu

Fried Fish – these are filleted pieces of blue gill
Homemade French Fries
Hushpuppies
Coleslaw

Fried Fish – My family enjoys the fish breaded in white corn meal. Thaw fish from freezer. Rinse with cold water and clean up fish. Dry fish on paper towels. I have a huge plastic bowl with lid that we put our breading in. Add fish to breading and shake up. Fry fish on stove or in a fryer.

Homemade french fries – Peel potatoes and slice in about 1/4″ slices. Rinse with cold water and dry. Fry in fryer.

Hush puppies - You’ll need 4 cups white cornmeal, 3 cups hot water, jalapeno peppers, green onions, salt and pepper. Chop up about 4 green onions, 4 jalapeno peppers. Boil water, fill separate bowl with white corn meal, green onions, jalapeno peppers, salt and pepper.  Slowly add hot water.  You want the mixture to be a little mushy.  Scoop out a big tablespoon and fry in pan on stove.    They don’t have to be perfectly round.  We make ours kind of thick and flat.

hushpuppies

Coleslaw – We buy from store.  :)

Please remember, because of all this southern frying, you will need lots of shortening.

And there you have it.  One of my favorite meals.

I love a good fish fry – it isn’t really all that healthy though, is it :)

I thought I left a comment here, but I guess on Wednesdays I’m so focused on putting the Community Wednesday post together I forget to comment.

That looks so good. I may have to try and talk my Dad into doing a fish fry soon. I need some good fried fish.
