How a squirrel got in my Mom and Dad’s house:
My Mom and Dad feed their squirrels throughout the day. They have a huge bag a peanuts on their kitchen table for when the squirrels come to the back door. The squirrels will sit and wait on the porch, sometimes scratch on the door like a dog or one of them has been known to hang from the screen. I’m surprised they haven’t taught them how to knock yet.
This has been going on for years and believe me, those squirrels are bigger than my darn dog. So when I called my Mom the other day this was our conversation;
Mom: Did I tell you what happen to me?
Me: No.
Mom: A squirrel ran in the house.
Me: OMG what?
Mom: One of the squirrels was on the porch waiting for peanuts and when I opened the door he ran in the house.
I know this sounds awful and I should have been concerned for their safety but I couldn’t stop laughing. Besides, I never got a call saying there was a squirrel attack and they were in the hospital.
Mom: He ran in the door, went through the kitchen to the dining room and was trying to get out the dining room window.
Me: How much is that squirrel in the window?
Mom ignoring me: I screamed a few times for your Dad while I held the back door open so he could run back out.
Me: Why does this stuff always happen when I’m not around? Darn it.
Mom still ignoring me: He finally just ran back out.
Me: I’m surprised you didn’t set a plate for him at the table.
Still ignoring me: Scared me half to death.
And I know my parents, next time I go over there this will be a squirrel.

Have a good day all! I wonder if I leave my back door open all day if a squirrel will come in?

You just never know what is gonna come through your door. I feed the squirrels too, everytime I fill the bird feeders.
We do as well Rick. lol Poor lil squirrels only get bird seed leftovers.
Never lived where there were squirrels, but have lived with chipmunks.. made the mistake of feeding them one summer.. they invaded.. when I quit feeding them, they ate my screens and came on inside, found the dog food and filled an old antique trunk with it.. blow guns come in quite handy for chipmunk problems.. lol Buy your mom a blow gun Jody.. hehehehe
Shame on you Stacey!
I once fought a squirrel in a house too, but he was un-invited, and we never fed him….or any of them for that matter. It always makes for a great story, though, as I’m sure your mom already knows.
haha..this is hilarious. i will not feed them because they are everywhere around us! i would be outnumbered.not to mention my hubby swears one chased him when he was little for no reason, to which i replied:oh honey, it just wanted ure nuts…rofl…haha
Arthur, lol. “I once fought a squirrel in the house … ” I can’t stop laughing about that either.
Mira, And now “my hubby swears” a squirrel was chasing him. That is hysterical. I would not let him live that down.
The squirrel’s in our backyard torment the dogs so we don’t feed them – but we’re still overrun, I’m glad one has never ran into my house!
Well, I actually love to watch the squirrels at play or whatever they are doing. I admit I have fed them in the past. Results: Ate an outdoor clothes line where I hung my waders to dry. (Glad my waders weren’t there!). A couple of summers ago, they ate a hole in my new lawn chair. I guess I have a love/hate relationship with them little fellar’s.
I love to watch the squirrels and this is a great story. Also, that picture of the squirrel licking the window is hilarious. I came across your blog on the Outdoor Bloggers Summit. I’m looking forward to reading it during this year.
