I would appreciate any words of encouragement for the kids if you would be so kind to leave a comment. They will love it.
Months ago I teamed up with BP and our local Boys and Girls Clubs to help initiate a Wish to Fish Clinic. The goal for the Wish to Fish Clinics is to introduce our local kids to the sport of fishing and educate them on safe practices. The kids were taught casting techniques, identify various types of fish and allow them to experience the joys of the sport of fishing.
Last week one of the clinics was held at the Porter County Indiana Boys and Girls Club. Cory, one of the directors, was happy to be a part of the clinic and has been fishing for many years.
This is what Cory had to say about the clinic:
All of the kids had a blast. I thought it was really neat that every kid that did the camp learned how to tie the improved clinch knot. This was really cool, especially since we have members as young as 6 who were never fishing before. The kids also did great with the fish identification. I expanded what BP gave me, to included other types of local fish. During the fishing trip, the kids were easily identifying what type of fish they caught. All the members were really excited, and on the last day, when they were picked up by their parents, they pleaded for their parents to take them fishing. It was a great time.
And here are a few pictures from their day out fishing:
If this isn’t a proud fishing moment, I don’t know what is. This cutie’s smile says it all. And I’m loving the sunglasses.

Another cutie proudly showing her catch. Do you see her shirt? Perfect for fishing! Love it. And look at the cutie next to her. I need a hat like his.

Would you look at the size of her fish. I think we might see this little cutie fishing for many years to come. And I’m loving her curls. Too cute!

Oh my, and this little guy…that is exactly how I hold up my fish. Right up close and personal. What a little guy and his fish. It doesn’t get any better.

And to top it all off, these little well mannered fisher guys and girls sent me a thank you card. It truly made my day. I’m so glad they had such a great time!

Way to go kids!!! You did a great job and I hope you continue getting outdoors and enjoying the sport of fishing.
I’d like to say a special thank you to Cory. What an awesome job he does working with the kids each day. I’m sure you made their day just as you made mine.

What fun! They are all adorable.
To the kiddos:
Ask for a follow up clinic to clean the fish and have a fish fry. That would be a yummy blast! =)
Looks like you all had a fun day. Hope you have many more fun times out fishing.
They look like they’re having so much fun!
This is a great idea Jody. It sounds like the kids learned some good fishing skills and had fun.
Those pictures remind me of the bluegill spawn each Mother’s Day weekend in my parent’s backyard. It was always so much fun for me (a still impatient angler).
PS – Those purple shades are the best!
Way to go kids. and way to go Jody. Nothing like sharing a little bit of what nature has to offer.. Get out doors and play.. sooths the soul..
Great!
Kids in the outdoors! Having “Phun” and making memories! I conected with up close and personal. I have pictures/memories with my children in a similar awe struck moment; mesmerized by their new discoveries! May we all hold on to the childlike wonderment as we advance in our fascination in the great outdoors.

We just had our BC Family Fishing Day here. It’s a weekend where every kid can fish without a license throughout the province. On “our” lake we had over 90 children between the ages of four and 16. It truly is a joy to watch kids having fun and see their big smiles when they caught a fish.
What a great story and pictures Jody and thanks for sharing.

Those are some awesome bluegill, kids! I have 5 little kids of my own and I love to take them fishing for bluegill! I’m glad you all had a blast.
That is SO COOL!!!
Looks like everyone had a great time. I would hope to hear about a follow-up event in the not-so-distant future.
Congratulations to all the new fishermen, keep after it!
What a great event for the kids, and the smiles on their faces says it all. Thanks for sharing Jody, and way to go kids.

It’s great to get kids involved in the great outdoors! Kudos to everyone involved in making it happen, great job! Great pictures too!
What a great way to spend the day! These kids to awesome. I think they are way better fisher gals / guys than me!!
I am very proud of you, Jody! Thank you so much for assisting in bringing fishing into the life of all of these kids. What a great activity and nothing beats kids and smiling faces.
Keep it up, Kids, fishing is a lifetime treasure that will give you many great memories.
Looks like they had a great time.
Congrats on all of your wonderful trophies. Keep fishing!
This sounds like a great program. Too many of our younger generations are losing the traditions such as fishing and hunting. At Wilderness Recipes, we have created a large library of free wild game recipes to help record and share recipes that may otherwise be lost.
Keep up the good work.
Congrats on being a fishing mentor!
It looks like the next generation is picking up on the things they need to bring home the fish.
Some times they don’t bite! it’s all about enjoying the outdoors. Keep up the good work!
