On Monday, President Obama released his proclamation for June, 2009 as National Great Outdoors month to encourage families across the country to get outdoors, be active, and enjoy what nature has to offer.
The President is asking that all Americans spend more time outdoors and to participate in the nationwide events marking this occasion.
There are so many wonderful activities to be enjoyed outdoors such as; fishing, camping, hiking, swimming, bug collecting, bird watching and so much more. It’s the perfect time of year to get your family outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather and all that Mother Nature has to offer.
Did you know you can find a fun activities from your local Department of Natural Resources website? I know in the state of Indiana they are offering kids and adults a free weekend of fishing this weekend, June 6-7, 2009 across several recreation areas. You can get more information at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website. Take a look at your own local state websites to find out what they have to offer as well.
As part of the National Great Outdoors month, each Friday I plan to talk more about what programs I will be involved in and what you can do to participate as well.
Have a wonderful day!

We too have a “free fishing weekend” here in Iowa this coming weekend. I hope the rain doesn’t take the whole weekend like they are forecasting.
Might be a good time for me to take oldest grandson out to fish…
Great article! I think every month should be Outdoor Month! There are so many things to do for free these days, who needs TV or a big bank account???
My husband is so excited about National Great Outdoors Month he’s going fishing this weekend to celebrate! I just bought him this book called “The Ultimate Man’s Survival Guide” as a little present to celebrate the month. I figure it has everything he should need to help him out
