Hi! My name is Bree. I blog over at Living a Fulfilling Life at Home mostly about family life and being frugal. I am the wife of Chris for going on five years now. He is an avid hunter and fisherman! They are both wonderful hobbies to have that also provide lots of free food and offers great inexpensive meals.
We are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters…Lillie (2 1/2) and Lexie (3 months). Early on we felt it impotrtant to introduce Lillie to the outdoors life (and will do so with Lexie too). As you can see in the picture, it never bothered her a bit to check out the deer her daddy brought home. She like live fish even more. She definately makes her daddy proud.
This year Lillie has started going on fishing expeditions with her daddy for the first time! She is having a blast. When she comes home she tells me all about the “fishies” she caught and the cow she sees at their special fishing hole. She holds on to her daddies fishing rod and says “Look! I got a fishie!” She thinks the rubber worm on the end of the line is a fish. It’s very cute.
I know he looks forward to taking his girls hunting with him as well.
She enjoys eating deer meat as much as we do. And recently I tried out a new recipe that we all had seconds of! It’s a slowcooker recipe, which is always nice!
I call it Deer Roast with a Sweet Twist, here it is:
-Root Veggies peeled and cut up – Carrots, onions, sweet potatoes, potatoes etc.
-Venison Roast
-Flour
-14 oz. can diced Tomatoes
-1/3 C. Maple Syrup
-2 tsp. Chili Powder
-1 tsp. Onion Powder, Garlic Powder and Cumin
Cut up and peel the veggies…layer them in the bottom of the crock pot.
Coat your roast with flour to help the sauce stick to it and soak in.
Make your sauce – Mix together the rest of the ingredients and pour it over the roast.
Cook on low for 12 hours or high for 8 hours.
Voila! It’s really easy and very good. It also is a bit different, which is something I’m always looking for. As much as I love the flavor of venison I like to change things up a bit too.

That does sound like a good recipe! Thanks for sharing.
Love the idea that you are getting the kids started early. Those will be some lasting memories for future years.
Recipe sounds great, I would like to try it. Just need to get someone to bag a deer this season.
How cute is Lillie! Just adorable.
The recipe sounds good too.
Great post and the recipes sounds mighty tasty.
