The Hunter’s Wife is going camping!!!
Why is that big news? Because I’ve never been.
I first heard about the Great American Backyard Campout from Justin at Great Wild Outdoors and I thought how fun it would be to campout for the night. The National Wildlife Federation’s Great American Campout will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009.
In honor of the National Great Outdoors Month, the Great American Backyard Campout is asking families, friends, neighbors and communities to enjoy a night out camping in your own backyard, campground, or your favorite campsite.
How can you not look at that picture and think of how fun it would be to have a fun night camping? So get your tents, sleeping bags, grills, snacks, lanterns and anything else you might need and have a fun night outdoors with your family.
To get more information please visit:
- National Wildlife Federation – Great American Backyard Campout
- You can also register your campout
- Help promote the campout
- Add to your site a graphic for the campout
Their website also includes a page preparing you for your campout with recipes, tips, crafts and even campfire songs – found a peanut, found a peanut, found a peanut last night… Ok, I didn’t see that one on there and I’m not sure how I even remember that song. But they have a whole list of songs you can actually download. How cool is that?
I will be talking more about the campout and what I’m doing to prepare and possibly you just might see a giveaway or two.
Have a wonderful weekend all and be safe!

This sounds like a great idea. I’ve already camped once this year, but I am more than willing to enjoy another night out camping. Even camping in the backyard can be a great time. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself Jody.
Arthur, You are the experienced camper. I need to send you an email. Will do this weekend.
I will have to follow this and maybe even try it myself. The last time I camped out was over 20 years ago at Fort Knox Kentucky.
As a matter of principle, I like to camp every month of the year, and lots more in summer of course. Don’t always achieve that goal (darned life gets in the way), but it’s always nice to spend a night under the stars.
oh my god! Now you will have to move for sure.
I don’t mean to act shocked…but, YOU are going to do a campout?! Doesn’t this go a little bit against your principles?
I’m baaa-aaack! Bet ya missed me, huh?
Way to go Jody! Have fun.
