The Hunter’s Wife Q & A

by Jody on August 13, 2008

I thought today we would have a bit of fun.  No time for any of you to be shy.  It’s participation day.

Ask me a question in the comment’s section below and I will post the answers.  It can be any question you would like to know about me; The Hunter’s Wife or my hunter.

That’s it.

I might even surprise you with a gift so ask away.

If it requires a lengthly answer – I will save for a post for next week.

I will go first…

What is the biggest deer Mark has taken since you two have been together?

Blessed – My dog Puddles.

Arthur – It’s the 2nd deer under Mark’s page. It’s also the one on our living room wall. I’ve posted on the blog a few times with the santa hat.

I am new to your site and left a message last week when I heard you on the radio. It really was a great thing you did for the disabled veteran and his family.

Do you eat the venison?

Jody August 13, 2008 at 8:39 am

Kristine – That is a hard question. I enjoy making my readers laugh so those are always my favorite post. I feel like I have to go back and read everything I’ve written. I liked the Christmas post because if any of you were in the room when I was trying to play with my own new present and you saw my hunter take over – you would have saw me (the 2 year old) pouting. I think this year I will give my hunter the sleeping bag with a note – “You might have to use this tonight if I open what I opened last year.”

Jody August 13, 2008 at 8:43 am

Laurie – Thanks! I just wish I could do more sometimes. As for the venison – I do eat the steaks. I’m a very picky eater. If you were dining out with me, you would notice me pick through my food to make sure there is no fat. Half of the meat on my plate is normally shared with our dog. He loves venison.

I’ve been a long time reader and have left a few comments. Does your hunter laugh at you a lot?

Jody August 13, 2008 at 9:43 am

Natalie – My hunter is rough and tough and tries really hard not to laugh at me. When it comes to hunting – that is a serious matter.

JO, If your Hunter doesn’t have plans to go to Cabelas this weekend could you make me some tuna noodle casserole. You make it so good and you know what else we haven’t had in along time is the broccoli casserole. Doesn’t all that sound good? Guess I am hungry.

Brian August 13, 2008 at 10:10 am

A woman who puts deer heads up, eats venison, sense of humor, will you marry me?

Travis August 13, 2008 at 10:11 am

What animals does Mark hunt?

Gram, aka my Mother – maybe my hunter will make us fish this weekend. If so, I will make the tuna noodle. Not that it goes with fish but we can have it for late night snacky snack. OH wait…my hunter is squirrel hunting this weekend. Maybe I could make tuna noodle Friday night and run for tamales Saturday morning. Sounds like we are pregnant.

GRAM August 13, 2008 at 10:16 am

JO sounds good to me

Jody August 13, 2008 at 10:19 am

Travis, deer is #1. He has hunted bear in Canada and our bear rug is on our wall at our cabin. Boar in TN. The boar is at our cabin as well. Squirrel, rabbit, turkey. I’m not sure why he doesn’t hunt some of the other things like coyote, beaver, etc. Maybe they just aren’t good eatin’.

Jody August 13, 2008 at 10:31 am

Brian, how sweet. I’m flattered but I’m taken.

What would it take to get you out hunting with your husband? A deer stand set up along the beach in Cancun? :)

Oh Haley…They might think I’m a lifeguard and I can’t speak Spanish. I seriously would love to go hunting with my hunter if he didn’t actually shoot anything. Besides that, I would have to hear stop talking, stop crying, stop laughing, stop talking, do you have perfume on? Might have to do a post about this.

The Frugal Momma August 13, 2008 at 1:42 pm

What is your favorite fish to eat and recipe?

The Frugal Mommas last blog post..From my Feeds #4

Jody August 13, 2008 at 1:52 pm

The Frugal Momma – My favorite fish to eat at home is bluegill. They are small but I like the small bite size pieces. I like it breaded with 1/2 cornmeal and 1/2 lemon/pepper breading you can get at any store. And then just deep fry it. We use regular shortening and a little butter shortening.

If I were to go to a restaurant – Steak and Lobster. The Chop House in Chicago is my favorite meal. I’m sure Haley has been there.

Ha – I love your first two comments! This should keep you busy today! :)

Two part question -

Where is Mark’s best hunting spot – his honey hole? How angry would he be if a stranger (not me, I swear!) was in his stand opening day?

Tom Sorensons last blog post..Trying Hard

Jody August 13, 2008 at 4:35 pm

Tom – Mark hunts on private property and if there was someone in his stand I would hope he would handle in an appropriate manner and not scare them out of it. That’s his honey hole.

Tom Sorenson August 13, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Shucks, I was hoping for more specific answer. :)

Tom Sorensons last blog post..Trying Hard

Tom – Marks honey hole is located in a funnel area between the bedding and feeding areas. Sometimes he will rotate his stand out depending on the crops. Early bow season he focuses on hunting only within 15 yards inside a tree line. Gun season, when bucks are in rut, he hunts flat open wooded areas. All from a tree stand.

Tom – My hunter is now dictating to me and I’m not liking it. This is my blog and was not wanting to know this much information. For the love of deer.

Tom Sorenson August 14, 2008 at 10:01 am

Ha! Well – I was actually hoping for driving directions…I mean after looking at the photo mentioned in comment #6, I decided I’ve never seen anything that big, so maybe I need to change stand locations! :)

Glad he was able to watch some of those videos last night – I’m sorry if it lost you the computer room for a while, but a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do once in a while. :)
