Growing up we were all faced with situations of peer pressure. Our friends were a big part of certain choices we made. We’ve all experienced some sort of peer pressure over the years. Smoking in the girls room or ditching wood shop because you might hammer your finger doesn’t come close to what kind of peer pressure I’m currently experiencing. I’ve got peer deer pressure.
I was having a conversation with Barb of The Women’s Outdoor News and we were discussing a few upcoming outdoor events. It was at that moment that I realized, I’m not hanging out with the little smoking girls anymore, I’m hanging with the big girls.
And their smoking guns.
And I don’t have a gun.
Or camouflage.
Or a weed to chew on.
Barb and I talked about the Team Huntress event she attended. We talked about SHOT Show and she mentioned Kirstie Pike from Prios Hunting Apparel was going on a gator hunt. OH DEER GATORS.
Gators.
With chopping teeth.
That can climb in boats.
And bite your leg off.
It was at that moment I realized these are some serious outdoor chicks. With new gator skinned shoes and purses. If I hang out with these gun packing women, I’m going to somehow end up in the woods. I just know it. I know me. I cave to peer pressure. No more I’ll break a nail excuses.
After my chicks with guns attack, I had to find a solution. I remembered overhearing conversations at our hunting cabin with my husband and his 3 hunting brothers. It seemed to be a regular conversation of, “Did you see anything?” “Not a thing.”
That’s it. That’s my plan. I can go on a hunt and see nothing. Even if I did. Even it my furry little friend ends up right under my stand with his 20 point rack. I’ll feed him and pet him and let him run off into the wild. My women of the wild outdoors will never know.
“Jody did you see anything.”
“I didn’t see a darn thing.”
Have a wonderful day all…I need to find me some camo.

I know where you can fiind the camo! You are too funny. We will have you in the woods in no time. You can just carry a camera and take pictures of the deer we would drool over!
Uh, that’s my form of doing grass, girl.
Wow, I think that will be my solution too. Although I’m not sure I could sit in a tree stand. They’re kind of high.
Hunting is not just going out to shoot something although that is the main goal for most of us.
I tend to get so relaxed sometimes while hunting because I am busy watching geese fly over or watching chipmunks run up and down a stonewall or even watching turkey slip through at a distance that I don’t see the deer come by until it’s too late.
The point I am trying to make is that just being out there is worth it and filling a tag is just a bonus.
At least take a camera with ya, if you’re not going to try to put a furry critter on the table. Although, I guess then you’d have evidence that you did see something. Nevermind!
Nowthat sounds like a perfect solution! You don’t think that is what the men have been doing too, do you?
hunting with a camera is a really good answer,
my friend Kim came down and photographed a monster buck that
stayed under her stand for over an hour.
see the post (the picture of Dorian Deer)
She can’t wait to do it again.
I sat in the doorway of a cabin for hours this spring waiting to see a turkey. I took my camera and got some great shots, including one of myself sitting in the cabin holding the 20 gauge shotgun my husband has had since he was, uh, 14 (a long time ago) waiting to see a turkey . Didn’t see a turkey but oh that feeling of being out there. You just gotta get out there, Jody, and see for yourself.
and if I remember correctly you’re not much of a morning person so you might “accidently” sleep through your 4:30am wake up call
Hey Wifey,
I have to say ” I just love you!”
You are playing with the big dogs now! BRING IT ON!
Feel free to roast marshmallows at my campfire anytime! You might want to perfect an “Ole and Lena” joke as Barb currently holds the story telling record title.
The Primal Voice of Nature is Calling You!
Terri Lee, That’s the way to include me in your clique…I’ll take pictures.
Babbs, No comment.
Kristine, You can’t be afraid of heights in the woods.
Rick, For some reason I have a feeling I’m too hyper for a tree stand.
Arthur, Never mind is right…lol
Debbie, I never thought of that.
Rex, I will have to check that. I don’t remember that. Or are you joking?
Paige, Oh deer.
Marc, That’s right…I would sleep in.
Jane, Bring it on…that is a cheerleading movie. Oh and I have a few thigh high stories.
I know this is late but… taking a camera is an excellent idea. Thats kind of why I go hunting. I love to take pictures. But I also have my gun handy. If you do it once or twice you’ll see what all the hypes about. Being there when the world wakes up, an awesome feeling. I hunt in a ground blind too, I’m not to keen on the tree stand, always have the feeling I’m going to fall out.
I agree with Jane. “The Primal Voice of Nature is Calling You!”
Jody.. I would never pressure you into killing anything..I will how ever pressure you into going for a hike with me.. yes, IN the woods… off the trial! Then we can work on that …” I have never been camping” thing we talked about…
OH,, yeah….and just a word of caution.. just cuz it is cute and furry..doesn’t make it safe to pet..I’m just saying..lets not jump in with both feet here girl… lets take it slow…lol…(RE.. fox.. squirrels…. skunks…etc.. etc.. and those are just the little furry ones..)
Love your humor…
Oh Jody! I would walk the hunting trails with you just to make you laugh! I don’t own a shotgun, or rifle, but I do have some guns & a camera! Plus I have a sure fire way of drawing deer, one that I would only share with you if we ever did get to hunt together! I bet you would come back with a 30 point buck! Then wouldn’t you be the envy of the town? Hunting isn’t the only thing to do in the woods, but it sure is fun! When do we leave Jody! LOL
I would have to agree with Rick, I just love being in the woods, the beauty of it all. Its my time with God. To kick back and relax and take it all in. Getting the deer is just an added bonus. Love your blog. Maybe after you write long enough about it you will find some enjoyment in it actually make it out into God’s country LOL. You just got to get into the woods. Its so peaceful. and when the sun rises its like a million diamonds sparkling in the sun. The dew that is. Awesome beauty found no where else but outdoors.
